Welcome to RESET

RESET is a diverse project with over 50 partners that aims to improve the resettlement process for young offenders. Effective resettlement helps young people to get back on their feet after a custodial sentence and means they are less likely to reoffend. It is funded by the European Social Fund (under the Equal Community Initiative Programme) and by individual contributions from partners. Rainer, the young people's charity, is the lead partner. RESET comes to an end this year and will be showcasing our key findings to a range of audiences including policymakers, practioners, media and partners.

RESET is all about:

  • Increasing access to long-term employment for young people who have been in custody
  • Listening to young people and working with their carers & families
  • Working with Government departments to influence policy
  • Having a positive impact on the lives of young people aged 15 - 25
  • Reducing crime
  • Getting agencies to work ‘smarter’ together

 Why was RESET set up?

We believe that given the right support these young people can have a better future and contribute to society. All too often there are complex reasons why young people commit crime and many need a lot of support, especially on leaving custody. Our partnership aims to make a long-term impact on resettlement policy and practice.

New resources now available

Free resources are now available for professionals and currently include a resettlement mentoring manual and young person's checklist. The manual is a step by step guide of how to set up a resettlement mentoring service and includes case studies, practical guidance and models. The checklist is for young people to use in partnership with professionals and is designed to help motivate and empower young offenders to plan for resettlement.
