John* was sentenced to a DTO (Detention and Training Order) in October 2005 and has recently been released from custody. He is currently on the electronic tagging scheme. He has substance mis-use issues and is engaging well with several intervention programmes - JSMS (Juvenile Substance Misuse Service) and MOSAIC (Drug and Alcohol Service).
John's mother is unsure how best to support her son and is worried about his future. The RESET worker identifies the need for family support around her son’s resettlement and builds a good relationship with the mother which develops while traveling together to see John while in custody. She now feels more supported and has a better understanding of what her son will need from his family on release.

As well as providing support to John's family the RESET worker liaises with the support agencies working with John and helps them to communicate together more effectively by encouraging everyone involved to share information. The RESET worker also continues to try to find employment for John and is investigating the possibility of suitable training courses to help him achieve this aim.
