Did you know? Nearly 3,000 under 18s were locked up (in YOIs, secure training centres and local authority secure children's homes) in England and Wales at the end of September 2005- a rise of more than 10% in the past six months *Youth Justice Board figures

RESET: Part of the chain of change

RESET is a two-year pilot that helps young people who've served custodial sentences get back on track. We’ll listen, work with you and provide the right support. Rainer, the young people’s charity, leads our project. We currently have teams in the following areas and are growing:

  • London (Newham, Lewisham, Greenwich)
  • East Manchester (Rochdale, Oldham, Tameside, Stockport)
  • HMP & YOI Swinfen Hall - West Midlands

Involving young people. Two young men who've been in custody, Fabian Spencer and Darren Raymond, helped to launch RESET and are now core members of the London Shakespeare Workout Company. Fabian wrote the poem, ‘And,’ to celebrate our launch.

Believing in you. Our partners want to make your future brighter. We can help you plan to get that job or place on a college course. Unfortunately if you’re not returning to the areas we cover, you won’t qualify for RESET. But you can still take action to help sort out your future. Go to the links section to find out about people that could help. If you do become part of RESET you’ll get:

  • A resettlement worker who’ll listen and help sort out problems that may be stopping you from moving on
  • A personalised resettlement plan
  • The chance to have a ‘mentor’ - a bit like a ‘life coach’ – (there’s more about mentors later on)

Why’s it special? RESET is the biggest ever project for the resettlement of young offenders led by a charity. We think it's special because we're here to improve resettlement and make things easier for you on release from custody.
